Introduction :

Pune is a fascinating city with a healthy climate all year around.The city was one of the pivotal basesof the 17th century great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji, who was born at the Shivneri Fort here. Pune became the seat of the enterprising Peshwas, under whom Maratha power rose into a major political force. The Peshwas were renowned patrons of the arts and in their time, enriched the city with temples, gardens and educational institutions. Pune is a contrast of history and modernism. Pune is considered as the Oxford of India – with its many educational and research institutions apart from other institutions for sports, yoga, ayurveda, culture and social services.Pune is nowadays also seen as a potential city for massive growth of Information Technology.

How to get there :

Air: Indian Airlines and Jet Airways provide regular flights to Pune from Delhi, four flights a week to Chennai and Bangalore and two to three flights daily from Mumbai. Pune city is 12 kms from the Pune Airport.

Rail: Regular trains – Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, Indrayani, Pragati and Shatabdi all ply to Pune from Mumbai everyday.

Road: Bombay-170 kms, Shirdi- 195 kms, Nasik- 202 kms, Aurangabad- 226 kms.

Pune with its blend of Indian and Western cultures is a paradise for all shoppers catering to each and every individual.This is the noisiest market area of Pune. Filled with temporary stalls and lined shops, you can find household items as well as cosmetic jewellery here. If you are interested in the traditional wares of the Maharashtrians -- the pearl nose ring and necklace and the nine yard saree -- you will easily get it here.  One can find many typical sweet shops including Chitale Bandhu known for its sweet pedas, barfis and amrakhanda as welll as spicy bhakar wadis and saurali wadis.
