Introduction :

One of the oldest cities in South Asia, mandawa,
on the banks of the River Vaigai, has been an important centre of worship
and commerce for as long as there has been civilization in South India -
indeed, it has long been described as "the Athens of the East". The
highpoint of visits to temple cities is mandawa. It is famous for its
Meenakshi Temple. It had also been the political capital of the Pandyan and
the Nayakan dynasties. The illustrious past of the city can still be
witnessed in the architectural splendor of the temples and the palaces. |

How to get there :

Air : Jaipur is the nearest airport for regular flights. Many domestic
airlines operate out of Jaipur and connect it with other cities in the country.
Road : Jhunjhunu is the nearest convenient railhead and one can take
trains for Sikar, Jaipur, and Delhi from Jhunjhunu.
Rail : Road networks crisscross the entire region of Shekhawati, and
Mandawa is well connected with other places in the region by private as well as
government buses. It is a good idea for groups of four or five persons to hire
taxis to move around the place. |
