The Sikh's holy city of Amritsar , site of the fabled Golden
Temple, is the largest city in Punjab, noisy, dirty, dusty and
hopelessly congested. Its one saving grace is the Golden Temple, whose
golden domes soar above the teeming streets. Visit the Golden temple The
sacred Sikh sanctuary, marbled, bronzed & covered with gold leaf wherein
the Guru Granth Sahib- The 'Sacred Book' of the Sikhs is placed
reverently. Visit the historic Jalianwalla Bagh where Gen. Dyer's
bullets killed scores of innocent Indians and the beautiful Ram Bagh
Gardens. Amritsar - the holy city of Sikhs, has grown from a sacred
village pond into spiritual temporal centre of Sikh culture. Amritsar is also an
important staging post for those crossing the Indo-Pakistani frontier at
Wagha, 29km west .The city gets its name from the pool-Amritsar (Pool of
Nectar), which was constructed by the fourth religious preceptor of the
Sikh faith. |

How to get there :
|
Air: The Rajasansi airport at Amritsar is well linked by flights from all
over India. Recently, it was elevated to an international airport. Chandigarh
has excellent air service, and it is linked with Delhi. Ludhiana and Amritsar
also have daily air service to New Delhi
Rail: With around 200 railway stations, it is another convenient
mode of traveling in Kerala. Railways connect most of the places in the state to
places in the other parts of the country and inside the state. Long-distance
express trains connect to almost all places outside the state like Mumbai, New
Delhi. The state of Kerala is a narrow strip located along Arabian Sea in the
southernmost tip of Indian Peninsula. The natural backwaters have given birth to
internal water , Chennai, and Kolkata
Road: Almost all major towns and cities have buses going to
Chandigarh. Between the major cities, New Delhi, Patiala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar,
Amritsar, and Chandigarh, there is deluxe bus services. In addition, there is
taxi service available in various towns. |

Amritsar has a fabulous and colourful bazaar. Hall Bazaar is the main
shopping complex of Amritsar displaying products of varied range, including
Electronics goods, Readymade Garments, Handicrafts, Ornaments and Bookshops.
Dharam Singh Market another market offering wide variety of products. Near
the Golden Temple there are numerous souvenir shops, which displays local
crafts. |
